A scarce
Banknote from Canada year 1936
A scarce "Prosperity Certificate" from the Province of Alberta. This is the only currency ever issued by a Canadian province in the modern era and is based on the principle of "demurrage" - the note is only valid as long as a new 1-cent stamp is affixed to its back every 7 days. The stamp system soon proved unworkable and all but 19,000 certificates were revoked and destroyed.
